Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare Fundraiser & New Film

On the 7th of May 2016, Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare hosted a beautiful fundraiser at the elegant Pelham House in Lewes with all profits to go direct to helping the animals they rescue on a daily basis

Raystede rescues, rehome and provide sanctuary for more than 2000 animals each year. The centre is immaculate – I have visited it! With sections especially built for birds, wildlife, equine animals, tortoises, dogs and cats, the centre really is an ‘all round’ animal rescue.

The evening kicked off to a beautiful start in the evening sunshine as champagne was served to guests. A silent auction took places with some incredible prizes.
Dinner comprised of a vegan and vegetarian option and we all indulged after a delightful speech from CEO Nigel Mason and TV Vet Marc Abraham.

Nigel Mason screened a special film that had been made alongside Linda Barker recounting the work that the rescue has done over the past few years. It was heartbreaking to see Nigel break down while talking about a horse they took in who developed cancer while in foal. They lost the horse, but successfully managed to deliver her baby.

Marc Abraham spoke about how Raystede is a real family charity and that its time for changes in animal welfare. That every person is powerful and has the ability to make change. I had mentioned just the same thing at The March to Stop Lion Trophy Hunting the previous week. People honestly do not realise the power that lies with each other and the strength that they can create in numbers, so if all of us keep hitting home hard with this message, hopefully changes can start to be made.

All in all, the evenng was beautiful and lots of money was raised for an extremely good cause.
